02.06.13 13:16
The permit was issued by State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) to State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) whereby Ignalina NPP is permitted to commence industrial operation of a Very Low-Level Radioactive Waste Storage Facility (Project B19/1).

The Buffer Storage Facility is a temporary closed building where the systems designed for radiological measurement, transportation and temporary storage of waste are installed. It is planned to store in the storage facility about 4 thousand cubic meters of radioactive waste that will be transported for the final disposal to the repository with non-complex artificial barriers. When the storage facility is full, radioactive waste will be transported to the repository by the campaigns every 2 years and after that accumulated at the storage facility again. It is the first part of the project B19 which objective is to build the Landfill Facility for Short-Lived Very Low Level Waste.
