The agreement confirming this project was signed at this year’s St Petersburg International Economic Forum by Anatoly Cherner, Deputy CEO for Logistics, Refining and Sales, Gazprom Neft, and Igor Shakhray, CEO, Hevel Group.

Under the terms of this agreement the companies will join forces in expert analytics and organisational cooperation, combining their respective skills and resources in building renewable energy facilities at Gazprom Neft assets.

Hevel Solar — Russia’s largest integrated solar energy company — will be involved in the development and pilot operation of the electricity station at the Omsk Refinery, expected to go into operation before the end of 2019. The project will allow parameters and lead times to be determined for building future industrial solar-power stations for Gazprom Neft. The energy company’s specialists will also train appropriate Gazprom Neft specialists in the construction and management of modern solar-power electricity stations.

Anatoly Cherner, Deputy CEO for Logistics, Processing and Sales, Gazprom Neft, commented: “This project forms an important part of our refinery modernisation programme. Solar-power stations will facilitate additional generation at Gazprom Neft’s refineries, improving the plants’ environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. We are partnering with Hevel — which has extensive experience in renewable energy — in implementing this project.”

Igor Shakhray, CEO, Hevel Group, confirmed: “This upcoming collaboration brings with it new opportunities for developing solar-energy technologies. Oil and gas-industry infrastructure offers significant potential for the introduction of renewable-energy solutions, and we are delighted to see the industry leader — Gazprom Neft — actively developing solar power.”

Gazprom Neft is currently involved in a full-scale modernisation programme at its Omsk and Moscow refineries, involving cumulative investment of more than RUB550 billion. The first stage of this modernisation has involved the construction and reconstruction of key technological facilities, allowing the complete transition to the production of Euro-5 fuels, significantly improving energy efficiency and environmental friendliness in production. The implementation of the second phase of the modernisation programme is ongoing, as a result of which conversion rate and the yield of light petroleum products will increase.

Hevel Group was founded in 2009, and is Russia’s largest integrated company in the solar energy industry. The company includes three structural units: a plant for the production of solar modules in Novocheboksarsk (Chuvash Republic), a developer unit that designs, builds and operates solar power stations, and a scientific and technical centre for thin-film technologies in the power industry (St Petersburg), which is the largest specialist scientific organisation in photovoltaics in Russia. Since 2014, the company has built 334 MW of grid solar generation in the Republics of Altai, Bashkortostan, and Buryatia, as well as in the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Orenburg, and Saratov Regions. The total capacity of grid-generation projects is expected to reach 907.5 MW by 2022.
