CPC pipeline put back into operation after shutdown

CPC pipeline put back into operation after shutdown CPC pipeline was put back into operation after the scheduled 61-hour shutdown. During this shutdown the pipeline was serviced, repaired and new facilities were tied in to the pipeline, which tie-in required pipeline shutdown.

The work was performed both within the framework of the base business and the expansion project.

The scope of work was completed to improve reliability of the pipeline. In particular, new pipeline crossings over the automobile roads were completed, several valves were replaced or repaired, etc.

New APS-4A (Kazakhstan) was connected to CPC pipeline system under the expansion project. Pig launcher/receiver station was connected to the pipeline at 0 km in accordance with the main design scheme. Pressure control station of the upper tank cluster was connected at the Marine Terminal.

- All this work was completed in full and in compliance with the approved work plans with perfect coordination between Moscow office, CPC regions and Contractor, - Victor Abmaev, CPC General Manager, Field Operations said. – Crude oil transportation was resumed on time.

CPC pipeline system is one of the largest investment projects in the energy industry with participation of foreign capital on the CIS territory. The length of the pipeline connecting the oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with the Marine Terminal near Novorossiysk is 1,511 km. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with single point moorings which allow for safe tanker lifting at a considerable distance from the shore, also when the weather conditions are unfavorable.

The Expansion Project includes rehabilitation of 5 existing and construction of 10 additional pump stations (2 in the Republic of Kazakhstan and 8 in the Russian Federation), six new storage tanks (100,000 cu.m each) in addition to the existing four near Novorossiysk and a third SPM at the CPC Marine Terminal, and also the replacement of an 88 km pipeline section in Kazakhstan with a larger diameter pipe. The total amount of the Project investments will be US$ 5.4 billion.
