Indian Company Commissions Sudan’s Largest Power Plant

“BHEL has executed this project on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis, having designed, manufactured, supplied and installed the complete power project (4 units of 125 MW each) including associated civil works”.

The project uses crude-oil from South Sudan as fuel, for which BHEL has designed special boilers. “All the major equipment for the project, including boilers, steam-turbines, generators, controls and instrumentation (C&I), transformers, etc., have been manufactured by BHEL”. The company has also constructed a canal from the White Nile River to supply water for the project, which is funded by Indian Government’s Line of Credit of $350Million.

“Notably, Kosti TPS is BHEL’s largest oil-fired thermal power plant in the overseas market. It is also BHEL’s first crude-oil fired thermal power plant in Africa and comes close on the heels of the successful completion of BHEL’s 28 MW Nyaborango Hydro project in Rwanda which was recently inaugurated”, BHEL explains in its release, issued on its website.

Elsewhere in Africa, BHEL has commissioned the 2×20 MW Steam Turbine and generators for cogeneration application at Tendaho Sugar Factory in Ethiopia. The companyis currently executing the 64 MW Grand Katende Hydro Project in DR Congo.
