Response to the incident on the Tikhoretsk – Tuapse-2 trunk pipeline under construction

The pipe wall was damaged by a landslide. Some of the seeped emulsion got into the Tuapse River. Due to unfavorable weather conditions (heavy precipitation and strong wind), some of the oil emulsion spread into the sea. The oil slick detected on the water surface in the bay has been removed by now.

Chernomortransneft, JSC promptly dispatched 330 specialists and 72 items of machinery, including 7 fire vehicles, to contain the incident. Response activities are conducted in the presence of representatives of the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office and the regional EMERCOM.

The pipeline leak area is inspected by RN-Krasnodarneftegaz, LLC, NIPI EngGEO, СJSC, Giprotruboprovod, JSC, DSMU-Gazstroy, LLC, Transneft Nadzor, LLC, and Transneft, JSC. The incident did not affect the operation of the Tuapse Refinery.

A range of activities are currently underway to finally clean up the polluted area at the leak location. Booms have been deployed on the Tuapse River, contaminated soil is being excavated and removed from the incident site, water surface and coastal areas are being cleaned up in the Tuapse Bay.

Chernomortransneft, RN-Tuapse Refinery and representatives of supervisory authorities, in collaboration with the Tuapse Port Authority, have developed an incident response plan.

Specialists from TsLATI, Chernomortransneft and RN-Tuapse Refinery are conducting environmental monitoring, samples from the Tuapse River are taken on a regularly basis to be analyzed for hydrocarbon content. Remediation activities will continue until all the consequences of the pipeline leak are completely eliminated.
