OKBM Afrikantov hosted a meeting on implementation of RFFR project

At the meeting the Russian side included a ROSATOM delegation led by Fedor Grigoriev, the Adviser of the technology development unit within the Innovations Management of ROSATOM, representatives of the French Embassy in Russian Federation, SRC IPPE and OKBM Afrikantov. The French side interests were represented by officials from the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and French nuclear corporation AREVA.

At the meeting the sides discussed approaches to design of the reactor equipment, including computer codes as well as safety standards and requirements. The meeting resulted in agreed proposals to be taken account of in the task group’s 2014 RFFR project report.

“We continue the work we started two years ago. The meeting, which drew experts of a high professional level from both sides, was very constructive. The sides demonstrated allied approaches and this proves once again that this project is constructive and of mutual interest. The next meeting in the framework of the project is expected in mid-December in Paris where the future interaction plans will be discussed,” Alexander Gorbachev, the Adviser on Nuclear Issues of the French Embassy in Russian Federation, said.

In the framework of development of the Generation IV sodium-cooled fast neutron reactor (RFFR, ASTRID project) AREVA is responsible for design of the nuclear steam supply system, auxiliary equipment and control systems. On its part, CEA works on the generic design and layout of the reactor core, and fuel.
